Angler Story of the Week: Belize Giant Perch

“This was an amazing experience traveling halfway around the world chasing the elusive permit in flight. I have always heard stories from all of my clients that have fished for these Permits that are difficult fish to catch. And boy were they right!

This trip took me from Hawaii to California to Texas to Belize City. Once in Belize City I took a smaller charter plane to Belize’s southernmost town, Punta Gorda, the “Permit Capital of the World”. I had a great time fishing six full days with Captain Yogi from Garbutt’s Fishing Lodge. Hours and hours on the bow of the boat for two seconds of opportunity to cast on these ghost like fish is worth it when all the stars line up, witnessing a giant Permit totally attack your sinking crab pattern. Unreal experience!

Belize is one of the most beautiful countries, it is full of different islands and lagoons. I couldn’t think of a better place to catch my first pass. Thank you Yogi!”
