Costa sunglasses, the maker of the first color-enhancing polarized front glass lens, brings next-level PRO performance to its best-selling Jose frame. As part of the brand’s Fall 2022 collection, this heritage frame, rebuilt with angler-approved upgrades, is named after legendary waterman and larger-than-life personality Jose Wejebe.
Building on Jose’s original framework (launched in 2010), Jose PRO joins Costa’s iconic PRO Series frame family with enhanced styling and six performance enhancements to help anglers manage sweat, reduce fog and keep their frames locked in place, even when the water turns rough . The frame’s namesake, Captain Jose Wejebwas a professional fisherman, Costa pro and host of two fishing shows, ESPN’s Spanish fly AND marine life. Born in Cuba and raised in Florida, Wejebe taught countless people what it means to be a “pro” on and off the screen. He was instrumental in developing the tackle industry and bringing under-represented communities together through fishing.
“What an admirable legacy we left behind. You can’t help but be inspired when you think about Jose. You hear it in countless testimonies of his life,” said John Acosta. Vice President of Marketing at Costa. “It is a privilege to carry on his legacy and continue to honor the role Jose played in the fishing community – breaking down barriers and inspiring others to do the same.”
“One of my favorite things about Jose was his ability to make everyone feel like somebody, no matter what water they were fishing, where they were from, or their skill. He dedicated his life to perfecting our sport and finding ways to help others see the beauty of our waters and the life within them,” said Captain Carter Andrews. “I love that Costa – a brand that so embodies Jose’s ethos – tried to make his frame even better. What a great tribute to an even greater friend.”
For nearly 40 years, Costa has provided anglers with the best sunglasses on the market for long days on the water. The new frames feature Costa’s color-enhancing 580® polarized glass lens technology for next-level clarity and are available in prescription sunglasses. The scratch-resistant 580G lens cuts fog and blur and enhances primary colors for clarity and high definition. Like all Costa injected frames, the PRO Series is built using the brand’s lightweight Bio-resin. Bio-Resin reduces the carbon footprint of traditional plastic frames while maintaining Costa’s strong sustainability standards.
In celebration of the new frames and Jose’s legacy, Costa will make an additional donation Jose Wejebe Memorial Foundation, her partner of many years. Jose PRO is now available at local merchants AND Costadelmar.com.
