How to help children enjoy eating the fish they catch


Once you teach a child to fish, the next step is to teach him to enjoy cooking and eat the fish he has caught. If you have done your job properly, your child is catching fish, learning and improving, and he can feel it. The same sense of accomplishment can extend beyond the seafront and into the kitchen, where children can learn to play an important role in what goes on at the family dinner table. Here are some clues from my experiences with my 5-year-old daughter, who will always gladly place a plate of freshly fried shrimp.

1) Choose the right species

There is a hierarchy of yummy fish, with mushroom-like fish sitting on top, and bottom foods sitting on bottom. As for the price of the salt water table, salmon, while it is something special for adults, can taste a lot of fish for young people. Consider aiming for clean-tasting sea fish. Day-to-day activity is usually best for them too – which goes a long way toward keeping your baby focused on the water.

2) Stick to recipes that children are familiar with

Every kid knows and loves chicken pieces and, when done right, fried fish is no different. Consider making the recipe below, which is fried carp with two loaves, crunchy. When it comes to sauces, stay away from tartar sauce or cocktail. A quality fish fry should not require spices either, in my opinion. Instead, keep it simple. Serve your kids fried fish with a lemon wedge, or if they like ketchup, set it aside.

3) Involve your child in the kitchen

Making your kids want to help with cooking starts long before their first successful fishing trip. Ask them to cook foods as simple as mac and cheese. Make sure you have a bench so they can stand up at the counter and attend to whatever is happening. Let them feel that sense of accomplishment of preparing a meal that will go to the dinner table.

4) Do a great job of cooking the fish you caught

There is a big difference between a trip to the grocery store and diving into dinner. Explain this to your children when you go fishing, or when you bring fish home to eat. One way to show them this is to serve your catch on something different from your daily dishes. And if your child brings home a fish to eat, make sure they know how special it is. It’s not just another dinner at home, it’s a fun, monumental event.

5) The earlier you introduce a child to wild play, the better

Children may develop an aversion to eating wildlife and fish. Start young and anyone who does not eat game and fish will be the anomaly, not the other way around. Plus, you will adjust their tastes in evaluating freshly caught fish versus requiring them to adapt after getting used to the fish from the grocery store. Undoubtedly, the time limit to introduce your child to eating fish is likely to be before the age when they learn to fish. My 5 year old daughter has eaten wildlife and fish for as long as she has been able to throw solid foods. Just make sure you are familiar with the quality of the local water where you fish and check your state guide or fishing regulations for tips on eating fish.

6) Lighten them slowly

You will want to involve your child throughout the process of catching, cleaning and cooking the fish, but it is important to do this gradually. This may mean showing your children pristine fillets before teaching them how to clean a fish. I personally cut the throats of most of my fish to draw blood, but this step is one step you may want to stop until your child is more comfortable and enthusiastic about fishing.

This recipe calls for mushrooms, but you can make it with other white meat fish, including hawthorn, sea bass, and various types of fish. Regardless of your grip, you will want to cut your pieces into squares 1 to 2 inches that are not more than half an inch thick.

Ingredients

  • 20 ounce mushrooms, minced fillets, peeled and cut into squares
  • Whole milk
  • Oat or almond milk
  • Peanut oil for frying

Spice mix

  • 1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon crushed garlic
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon dry oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground celery

Washing eggs

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup Frank’s RedHot sauce
  • 1 beaten egg

Driga mielli

  • 1-1 / 2 cup flour for all uses
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup of the spice mixture on top

Crappie fillets and fillets cut from the skin. Cut the fillets into square pieces, which usually means cutting most of the meat into two pieces and holding the meat from along the full ribs for a total of three pieces. Soak the fillet squares in whole milk for 1 to 2 hours. Drain the milk. Do not rinse. Cover the fillet squares with oatmeal or almond milk and let soak for another 2 to 3 hours.

Stir in the spice mixture and add 1/3 cup of this mixture to the flour bowl and mix thoroughly. Divide the flour drop into two separate bowls. I usually prefer two baking trays for this. When you are ready to fry, in a third separate bowl or bowl, thoroughly mix the egg wash ingredients.

Preheat a Dutch skillet or oven containing peanut oil to 400 degrees F. To prepare the fish for frying, remove each portion from the milk marinade and toss in the first bowl of flour mug. Shake off the excess. Dip in the egg wash mixture and then toss in the second bowl of flour with the flour. Shake off excess flour and place on a plate or stainless steel grill.

Fry several pieces of carp at the same time until roasting is brown and crispy. Just be careful not to overfill the Dutch fryer or oven. Remove the fried fillets and place on a stainless steel grill so that the fat drips. Allow the fish to cool before serving (5 to 7 minutes for children, 1 to 2 minutes for adults).
